"Just over three years ago, a very young child bumped her head while playing at school. Her name is Jackie Black. In my opinion, the day Jackie bumped her head, was the beginning of the largest research effort to end Pediatric Brian Cancer.
Jackie Black’s story of hurting her head and being taken to the hospital for a routine check up ended up to be the day her mother,( and may I add, single mother of five children) set out to find a cure for pediatric brain cancer.
That day, was the day Jackie Black and her mother found out that Jackie had a brain tumor. After months of treatments, (and let me add that Jackie is doing fine) her mother, Ms. Barbara Canales, set out to find out who was the largest pediatric brain cancer research center and more importantly, what was needed to find a cure.
The answer was simple, Texas Children’s Hospital and Lots of Money.
Today, after almost three years from the date little Jackie hit her head, Barbara Canales and the Ready or Not Foundation, who have been raising the money needed for Pediatric Brain Cancer research, have raised over (1.5) one and half million dollars, making to date the Ready of Not Foundation the largest non profit funding source to Pediatric Brain Cancer Research.
I am very proud Barbara, to be the spokesperson for the Ready or Not Foundation.
When I visited the Texas Children Hospital this past December, I was moved to meet with the Doctors, the scientist doing the research, and most importantly, the beautiful patients. It hurts me to know that all the children I was photographed with that day have all passed away. And it upsets me even more that more children will pass, unless like Barbara and the Ready or Not Foundation, we step to the plate and donate the funds needed to bring an end to pediatric brain cancer.
I have been so fortunate my entire life. I am living the dream of all dreams. I have my health. I entertain people for a living. What else could I ask for? For me, I stand in front of you today asking for your help. Please support the Ready or Not Foundation.
Thank you Jackie Black, back home in Corpus Christi Texas . Thank you Barbara Canales for allowing me to help. And thank you Ready or Not Foundation for helping the future of our children."
